FLIP NATIONAL

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2015 to promote equal opportunity for first-generation and low-income students in institutions of higher learning.

who we are

We are a national community of First-Generation and Low-Income (FGLI) students and supporters in the form of school administrators, faculty, staff, volunteers, donors and corporations fighting to provide resources, advocate policy changes and create safe spaces for first-generation and/or low-income students.

Our MOTIVATION

Even in educational systems designed to promote equal opportunity and social mobility for all students, students from under-resourced backgrounds often face unique challenges within their educational experiences. This issue even stands when they gain access to “elite” institutions of higher learning. It has come to the forefront that first-generation and/or low-income students face a variety of problems including food insecurity, homelessness, poor access to textbooks and other academic resources, while studying in institutions of higher learning.
Pockets of students who identify as first-generation and low-income have launched initiatives on their respective campuses to address problems that hamper their academic success and well-being. FLIP National therefore aims to unite efforts across campuses and create a platform for effective collaboration to raise awareness of the issues that first-generation and low-income students face.

What we do

We promote equal opportunity for first-generation and low-income students by raising awareness of the issues facing FGLI students, building sustainable, supportive student led communities and advocating for policy changes through national and campus-based chapter initiatives. We also foster cross-organizational partnerships to ensure that all students have equal acces to quality education.
