THE PORTAL

FLIP National, also known as the National First-Generation Low-Income Partnership, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in September 2015 to promote equal opportunity for first-generation and low-income students in institutions of higher learning. We act on our mission through campus chapters which focus on community building, resource allocation and redistribution as well as advocacy for policy changes to eliminate the factors that hamper the well-being of FGLI students.

We have identified 7 Target Areas which affect the performance of FGLI students and have curated initiatives under each of these Target Areas to address the prevalent problems. These Target Areas are: Food Insecurity, Student Homelessness, Academic Development, Student Wellness & Community Building, Financial Support, Professional Development, and Awareness & Visibility.

In fulfillment of our mission to promote equal opportunity for FGLI students we are launching this portal to facilitate collaboration among all the stakeholders who wish to improve academic outcomes for FGLI Students. Below are our 6 public membership classes. If you wish to join this movement please fill out the appropriate application form below. There are separate and distinct processes for joining FLIP National’s Board of Directors, Advisory Council or Staff. For more information on how to join any of these, please shoot us an email at info@flipnational.org.

PORTAL FEATURES

Committees

The portal supports an unlimited number of public and private committees. Committees for chapter leaders, administrator task forces, researchers, alumni groups, support circles and much more facilitate unbridled exchange of knowledge and resources.

Workspaces

Each committee has access to an exclusive workspace. Workspaces allow members to chat via the discussion forum, bookmark messages, receive notifications, view workspace history, upload and share files, and connect directly with other members of the committee.

Member Directory

The Member Dirctory offers unparalleled access to members of the FGLI community. You can search for members by institution, location, title, member type and much more. Members have control over whether they appear in the directory and what information of theirs is displayed.

Job Board

You can view and directly apply for jobs through the job portal. Individuals and organizations can post jobs, including but not limited to, volunteer work, internships, and full-time offers. We urge employers to use this as a tool for recruitment from the FGLI community.

Member Benefits

Exclusive national, regional and chapter benefits will be posted regularly under in the Member Benefits area. These benefits will include giveaways and discounts from partners on goods and services such as laptops, summer storage, appliance repairs and much more.

Events

You may keep track of local, national and global events in the FGLI space via the portal. FLIP Chapters and other organizations in the space can ask for their events to be posted on the portal. This will help us all grow stronger together as we attend one another’s events.

Polls & Surveys

Organizations and institutions looking to learn more about the first-generation and low-income community can send out polls and surveys via the portal. Given the need to learn more about the problems and needs of the FGLI community, this is a really important feature.

Email Marketing

FLIP National will send out regular newsletters to members on the portal about what’s happening in the FGLI space. This is a good way to keep track of new developments in this ever-evolving space. You can send us blurbs to be included in these regular newsletters.

Video Library

The vidoe library portion of the portal will allow us all to share stories about about our struggles and triumphs as members of the FGLI community. This feature will eventually serve as the backbone for our FLIP Voices initiative and a repository for cross-generational knowledge.
